Full job description
We are seeking a reliable and experienced Forklift Operator to join our operations team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and accurate operation of forklifts and other material-handling equipment to move, load, and unload bulk commodities within the facility.
This role plays a critical part in ensuring smooth warehouse operations, maintaining product integrity, and supporting compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
Operate forklift and related equipment safely and efficiently to handle bulk materials, pallets, or containers.
Load and unload trucks, trailers, and containers according to operational instructions.
Transport materials between storage areas, production zones, and dispatch points.
Stack and store products safely to prevent damage and ensure accessibility.
Conduct pre-start and post-shift equipment inspections and report defects or safety hazards immediately.
Ensure forklifts are charged/fueled and maintained according to manufacturer guidelines.
Secure and balance loads properly before transport to prevent tipping or spillage.
Operate only authorized machinery within designated zones.
Warehouse & Yard Support
Assist with manual loading/unloading and packing when required.
Maintain housekeeping standards, including clearing spillages and organizing storage areas.
Label, wrap, or repackage products as instructed.
Support tally clerks and weighbridge clerks to ensure accurate stock movement.
Participate in stock counts, inventory control, and reconciliation.
Assist supervisors in achieving daily operational targets.
Perform ad-hoc duties such as sweeping, pallet sorting, or equipment checks.
Compliance & Safety
Adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) regulations.
Follow site safety protocols, traffic management plans, and PPE requirements.
Report incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions immediately.
Participate in safety briefings and training sessions.
Ensure compliance with COIDA and site-specific safety standards.
Comply with quality standards relating to product handling and contamination prevention.
Operational Excellence
Meet daily loading, unloading, and movement targets.
Maintain accurate documentation and recordkeeping.
Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Minimum Requirements
Valid Forklift Driver’s License
Minimum 2 years’ experience operating an electrical forklift
At least 1–2 years’ experience in a warehouse or logistics environment
Must have FMCG experience
Matric Certificate
Knowledge of safe loading practices and cargo handling
Ability to read and understand work orders, pick slips, and labels
Physically fit and able to lift moderate loads
Strong attention to detail and time management skills
Good communication and teamwork abilities
Willingness to work shifts, overtime, weekends, and public holidays as required
Working Conditions
Fast-paced import/export warehouse and yard environment
Exposure to outdoor weather conditions
PPE required at all times
Extended periods of standing and operating machinery
Noise and dust exposure in operational areas
