Financial Accountant – POS26246
Based: Glen Anil, Durban North
Salary: R50-55,000 per month (negotiable based on experience

The successful candidate will take full responsibility for the financial accounting function, ensuring compliance, accurate reporting, and internal controls. This role is ideal for a commercially minded accountant with heavy industry experience who is either a newly qualified CA(SA) or actively progressing toward completion of their CA qualification.
Key Responsibilities
• Financial Reporting & Month-End: Prepare and finalize accurate monthly management accounts, balance sheet reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
• Asset & Inventory Management: Oversee fixed asset registers and manage complex inventory/stock controls typical of heavy industry environments.
• Taxation & Compliance: Prepare, calculate, and submit all statutory returns including VAT, PAYE, and provisional tax assessments.
• Audit Preparation: Lead and coordinate the year-end audit process, compiling the necessary audit files and liaising directly with external auditors.
• Cost & Variance Analysis: Analyze operational costs, production/engineering variances, and provide actionable financial insights to the senior management team.
• Cash Flow Management: Monitor daily cash flows, perform banking recons, and manage treasury requirements.
• Internal Controls: Implement, monitor, and optimize financial control systems to mitigate risk across the plant or workshop environment.
Requirements & Qualifications
• Qualified Chartered Accountant CA(SA) OR actively studying/progressing towards completion of the CA(SA) qualification (CTA / Board Exams in progress). OR Minimum of a B. Com Honours degree in Accounting with completed articles.
• At least 4 to 5 years of post-articles or commercial financial accounting experience.
• Direct, proven experience within Mining, Engineering, Manufacturing, or the Heavy-Duty Equipment/Machinery sectors is highly advantageous.
• Strong working knowledge of cost accounting, work-in-progress (WIP), and heavy equipment depreciation tracking.
• Advanced proficiency in major ERP systems (e.g., Syspro, SAP, Sage Evolution, Pastel Partner).
• High-level Microsoft Excel capability (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, advanced financial modelling).
• Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to handle pressured deadlines inherent to industrial month-ends.
• Strong communication skills to effectively bridge the gap between financial data and technical engineering/operations teams.
